One of the most important things I’ve learned in life is that writing can be used anywhere. Not only is it a great tool for communicating with others, but it is a great way to express feelings, opinions, and beliefs; it can be used as a vent.
I did not learn the importance of writing until my English A.P. class that I took in high school. My teacher always said that writing is one of the most valuable skills we would learn. From that moment on, I began to notice how writing clearly and effectively pertained to situations, even in everyday life.
Even though I realized this, it still took me to the last second of Sophmore year to realize what my major and minor should be: Communications and Writing, respectively. Each class I have taken has built off the one I took before it. What I have began to notice, though, is that you can always learn something new about writing, and you can always learn something new about communicating more effectively. There’s almost always a better way to write something, or communicate something better. From taking many courses here at Manhattanville, Communications and Writing are two of the most widely used things in any field of business. I never realized, until I became a communications student, that everything from a Business Memo to a Resume is analyzed and interpreted by each person differently.
Although I have already had an internship at Lifetime Networks, I am still figuring out all the particular details of the first job or career I want to pursue. For now, I just plan on practicing and perfecting the skills that I will learn in this course, and the courses I take after this.
